You need certification before your MMCP card. Before you can buy medical cannabis at Good Vibes — or any Mississippi dispensary — you need (1) a written certification from a Mississippi-licensed practitioner registered with the MMCP, and (2) an approved MMCP card. New to the process? Start with our step-by-step MMCP card guide.

Why There's No Single Directory

Mississippi's MMCP allows registered practitioners to choose whether their registration is public or private. Many doctors keep their registration private for personal or practice reasons. As a result, the state doesn't publish a single comprehensive directory of every certifying practitioner.

Patients have two main paths to find one:

  1. The official MMCP website's program information
  2. Third-party lists where doctors have voluntarily opted in to public listing

1. Mississippi State Department of Health — Official Resource

The official state authority for the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program. This is the most current source for program rules, practitioner registration requirements, and patient registration.

Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program (MMCP)

Official program portal — patient registration, FAQs, program rules.

Visit mmcp.ms.gov

The MMCP site doesn't currently publish a browsable practitioner directory, but it does have the most authoritative info on the program and registration process.

2. Word of Mouth + Community Resources

Many qualified MMCP-registered practitioners aren't publicly listed in any directory — they prefer their existing patient base or referrals. Two ways to surface unlisted practitioners:

  • Mississippi cannabis Facebook groups + support forums — patients regularly share practitioner recommendations
  • Ask at the dispensary — our budtenders hear which clinics regulars are happy with, and we're happy to point you toward names that come up positively

You can also use the section below for clinics that are openly accepting new patients.

3. Specialized Cannabis Clinics — Jackson Metro Area

Several clinics in Mississippi specifically focus on MMCP certifications. The following are publicly-listed clinics serving the Jackson metro area (the most convenient options for Good Vibes patients in Canton). We recommend calling ahead to verify current pricing and availability.

Note: Good Vibes Dispensary does not endorse any specific certifying practitioner. The clinics below are listed for informational purposes only. Verify a practitioner's MMCP registration with the Mississippi State Department of Health before paying for a certification.

What to look for when choosing a clinic:

  • Practitioner clearly identifies as MMCP-registered (verify before paying)
  • Transparent pricing — typically $150-$250 for initial certification
  • In-person or video consultations (Mississippi accepts both for many situations)
  • Reasonable wait times — many clinics offer same-week appointments
  • Clear info on renewals (you'll need annual recertification)

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Mississippi requires a bona-fide practitioner-patient relationship for certification. This is not a 5-minute rubber-stamp process. Expect:

  1. Medical history review. Bring records or be ready to describe your qualifying condition, treatment history, and current medications.
  2. Discussion of cannabis suitability. The practitioner is evaluating whether cannabis is appropriate for your condition — not just whether you want it.
  3. Education on Mississippi-specific rules. Most clinics will walk you through allotment limits, where you can/can't use cannabis legally, and what's required at the dispensary.
  4. Issuance of certification. If approved, the practitioner submits your certification directly to the state through the MMCP portal. You'll then complete your patient registration separately at mmcp.ms.gov.

Typical appointment length: 30-60 minutes for the initial visit. Renewals are usually shorter (15-30 minutes).

Qualifying Medical Conditions

Before booking, confirm you have a qualifying condition. The MMCP list includes:

  • Cancer · Parkinson's · Huntington's · MS · ALS · Alzheimer's · Glaucoma · Hepatitis · HIV/AIDS
  • Crohn's disease · Ulcerative colitis · Sickle cell anemia · Spastic quadriplegia
  • PTSD · Autism with aggressive or self-injurious behaviors
  • Agitation of dementia
  • Chronic, terminal, or debilitating pain (the broadest category — covers many real-world cases)
  • Severe nausea, cachexia, or wasting from a chronic medical condition or its treatment

If your specific diagnosis isn't on the named list, the broad "chronic pain" and "severe nausea" categories cover many additional situations — your practitioner makes that determination.

The complete current list is at mmcp.ms.gov — definitive source.

Costs to Plan For

Budget approximately $175-$275 total for your first card:

  • Practitioner certification: $150-$250 (varies by clinic)
  • State registration fee: $25

Cards must be renewed annually. Renewals are typically cheaper because the practitioner relationship is established.

Most MS clinics don't accept insurance for cannabis certifications (federal status of cannabis makes insurance coverage difficult). Expect to pay out of pocket via credit card, debit card, or cash.

After You're Certified

Once you have your MMCP card in hand, you're welcome at Good Vibes Dispensary in Canton. We're 25 minutes north of Jackson on I-55 — see our Canton location info or directions from Jackson.

Bring on your first visit:

  • Your MMCP card (physical card or digital copy)
  • A government-issued photo ID (name must match MMCP card)
  • Cash or debit (we can't accept credit cards yet due to federal banking restrictions)

Our budtenders walk first-time patients through the menu — strain types, categories, dosing for new users. No pressure to buy anything specific.

Good Vibes Dispensary is a Mississippi-licensed medical cannabis dispensary, not a medical practice. We don't provide certifications, medical advice, or doctor referrals. The resources above are public-facing sources for finding a Mississippi-licensed practitioner.
